A life story in Porfessional Properties Co.
2010-05-18
Real estate has always seemed natural to Lawrence. As a child he would visit many show flats with his father and thus developed a strong taste for nice decoration and beautiful design.
Lawrence started his career as a real estate agent in 1997 when he joined a small family agency on Caine Road. After having worked there for a couple of years, he met Raymond Lung, who was himself starting his own company and looking for young, dynamic, and professional agents. During this period, (1999-2000) the market was quite active and Lawrence found Raymond’s offer interesting…
He thus decided to join Raymond’s team, made of 7 people at the time, and started to do his training period: sightseeing, dictation, learning about the different residential areas… Indeed, before this time, no license was needed for agents to be able to work, but the law changed and Lawrence was actually the first trainee!! Working in the company helped him improve his skills in English, indeed, he was more and more in relation with Westerners foreign clients, and even though it was difficult at the beginning, he still worked hard on it, for example, he would pay attention when the colleagues were talking with a foreigner, if he didn’t understand what they were talking about, he would ask actively. His efforts got rewarded and Lawrence is now fluent in English.
When asked about the S.A.R.S. period and how they managed to overcome the crisis, Lawrence answers that the fact that Professional Properties Co. was a small family company was definitely a plus during that period. They actually performed quite well, and he realized that their strong point was that they were tough during low market and challenging periods. Also, whether in a bad or good market, Lawrence would always keep his positive attitude, and this is the characteristic that helped him become the top sales for 5 years.
After meeting this personal challenge, a new one was waiting for him as he was promoted Branch Manager of Robinson Road Branch. He needed to lead a team mainly made of trainees, who were all very fresh and young, and still in the process of acquiring experience. He remembers that the market was very good at that moment; every trainee would get offers, and they all needed Lawrence to guide them during the process. So, at the beginning, since he had no experience as a manager, and was only used to taking care of himself, they all would have to stay in the branch very late, 11:00p.m or 12:00 midnight was usual for them. Although they were very hard working at that time, they still enjoyed the experience a lot. The most important thing is that they got a very good result and gained a lot of valuable experience. Again, Lawrence won a beautiful battle since their team became top team of the years 2008 & 2009.
Lawrence is now Assistant General Manager and thanks to his hard work and tremendous efforts he became one of the best assets of the company. Many times best sales, he admits that what excites him most about his job is the negotiating process. While taking his job very seriously, he actually compares this process as a game, where meeting the owner and the buyer’s requirement means winning.
